Hebrew Scriptures
This course surveys the Old Testament (Tanakh), examining its composition, historical context, and literary variety. Focus is on the Torah, Prophets, and Writings (including wisdom and historical books). Students study the texts as both sacred scripture and cultural documents, exploring their theological, social, and ethical themes, and their lasting religious and cultural impact.
Books required: Reading the Bible Again for the First Time by Marcus J. Borg & Let There Be Light by Elizabeth Sand Turner.
